Dr. "Wade" Wei Ren

Wade Ren spent the first 20 years of his life in China, and the next 20 years in the North America and appears likely to split his time in these two continents in the future as well, indulging in his passion of uncovering great investment opportunities and his interests in fostering innovative projects that create value and have positive societal impacts. 

Wade co-founded Adaptive Capital Management, LLC, an investment advisory firm and serves as the Portfolio Manager. He is also the founding investor of two start-up companies in China, giving him hands-on experience and insight to the Chinese business risks and opportunities. Wade is an active angel investor in a number of technology start-ups in US as well. Previously, he was the Chairman, CEO and co-founder of WeVest.com, Inc., a venture-backed company that pioneered the online mutual fund concept.

Before that, he was on the faculty of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, the University of California, Berkeley, where he supervised post-Docs, Ph.Ds, and masters students, published over 60 papers, and served as the associate editors of IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, and International Journal of Adaptive Signal Processing and Control.

Wade earned his Ph.D. (with a Best Thesis Award) from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and MS from the University of New Brunswick, Canada, and a BS from Chongqing University, China.  

 
 
Maggie Tsai

Maggie Tsai co-founded Adaptive Capital Management, LLC, an investment advisory firm. She serves as a Research Analyst and manages the portfolio operation. She is also an active angel investor and acts as advisor to a number of technology start-ups in US and China. She has broad-based and extensive experience in financial management, product development & marketing, and business operations over the past 15 years.

Prior to Adaptive Capital Management, Maggie was co-founder and VP of Corporate Development at WeVest, an online mutual fund company, where she was integrally involved with all facets of company, including overall business plan and strategy, private equity fund-raising, team-building, product development, and operations. She led cross-functional teams of designers, engineers, and producers to plan, implement, QA and launch a highly-dynamic site with a complete quote / portfolio tracking / trading platform and personalized content. WeVest’s site was rated a “Cutting Edge Website” by Mutual Funds magazine, and a “Blue Chip Pick” by Online Investor.

Before co-founding WeVest, Maggie was with Merrill Lynch, providing portfolio management for high net-worth individual investors and privately-held companies. Earlier, she served as a Product Manager at Fidelity Investments, managing the development and marketing of a sophisticated PC-trading software for active investors.

Maggie holds a BA degree in chemistry at Pomona College, and an MBA at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
